Our History
Our Past
In 1964, God gave the people of Redrock Baptist Church a vision to begin a Mission at the corner of Arville and Oakey. Property was purchased and six families committed to beginning West Oakey Baptist Church. They worshipped in a trailer on the site until construction of the church was competed two years later. God’s Word was preached and the church grew, following Christ’s command “to love the Lord your God with all your heart…and love your neighbor as yourself."
By 1983 the Worship Services were crowded. God’s people prayed and the new Worship Center opened in July 1985. There were 460 in attendance. Hallelujah! On Sunday, October 5, 1986 Michael Rochelle and his wife Mary, and their 2 preschool boys arrived to begin the ministry to which God had called them. There was one Bible Study and one morning Worship with an attendance of 265. Over the years and under the leadership of Pastor Rochelle, schedules have changed many times to allow for growth.
On September 10, 1989 during one Worship service 700 people gave $104,000 plus tithes to enlarge the Worship Center and purchase 4 modular to be used for Bible Study. By 1994 the congregation had outgrown the space again but God gave Pastor Rochelle a vision of purchasing property to build larger facilities. The church’s name was changed to Shadow Hills. After many struggles, 20 acres of land was purchased on Vegas Drive. Services began September 17, 1999 with 2470 in attendance.
Our Present
We have now been on Vegas Drive for just over 12 years. Pastor Michael has been a visionary leader which has kept us looking forward and has not allowed us to settle for less than God’s best. We added a new building to our facility December of 2003, the Archibald C. Rufty Sr. Family Recreation Center and in 2004 we opened our Oasis/Community Room. We have just completed a large Community Outreach Project for the Caring 4 Kids Foundation. Our wonderful and generous church family was able to collect 50,000 food items and provisions for homeless children.
Our Future
Our best days are still ahead of us. We are thanking God, in advance, for His provision and guidance in the next few years. We are very excited about our future building plans.
- Children’s Education Building
- Adult Education Center
- Shadow Hills Chapel
More family events, after school programs, Summer Camps, parental support classes, and program conferences are scheduled. New outreach programs will be developed for the school district, local prisons, Sun City and Nellis Air Force Base. We are committed to serving our Lord by serving His people. However and whenever He directs, we will GO! Pastor reminds the congregation that our Mission Statement is “We value people. We create a joyful environment of faith, hope and love while providing guidance, encouragement and support.”
